Sydney, Australia : McMahon’s Point Meet (NSW, 15/2/2004)

This Meet was organised by Andrew Green and Simon Chan. Pictures and writeup by Simon Chan.

Well, after much anticipation, a significant buildup of pre-meet tension/excitement...... the day for our official 3rd NSW meet had arrived! (Sunday 15th Feb 2004)

In total, here is a list of attendees who made an appearance for the day:

» Andrew Green
» Normann (aka TobyIIDog), and his wife Heidi (or haydee, soz for any misspelling)
» John (aka Toy-23Q), and his younger brother
» Shannon (aka sydneyshan), and his bandanna'ed mate (soz i didnt catch his name)
» Ramone and his wife and son (aka TobyIIDog's uncle, aunt, and cousin)
» Sheila (aka Tsunami - who made a brief proxy appearance on behalf of her brother dhexsther)
» Simon (aka Stormcrow - me!)

11 people, 7 RAVs..... and what was looking to be a top day (with great weather)

The day started at 9:30am on Sunday (15th Feb), at the Sydney Olympic Stadium at Homebush Bay. On my way thru the Olympic park (dubbed Sydney's white elephant), I noticed a group of 20+ subie WRXs that had gathered, obviously for another meet.

I arrived slightly early at 9;25am, and at 9:35am, I was still the first and only person to be present..... and heres the proof!

Weather was looking a bit overcast.....

However, I was not waiting long before the rest of the RAVs arrived in style - Andrew, Normann and Ramone (at speed, into a small car park), John (with his beefy sound system), and Sheila

Before we started off on our cruise for the day, he had to take a few glory shots in the nearby gravel car park.
Here are the RAVs starting from the left: Andrew, Stormcrow, TobyIIDog, Ramone, and Toy-23Q

Two closeup shots of our RAVs, three in each. you can probably notice the signficant lower profile of Andrews to-be showcar relative to the others.
Lined up side by side.... looking almost directly across the bonnets
And another side-by-side shot, but from the other side.... morning sunshine timed its presence well!
Not included in these initial pics was Sheila's RAV, a silver 4.2 2-door edge model. After a brief hello, she wished us a good farewell and good riding on our cruise…. Then we were off !
Toy-23Q led the way into the city, with the rest of us following in near-perfect convoy, and Andrew ensuring all of us kept in line. Both John and ANdrew had CB-radios, which seems like a very smart investment if you participate regularly in cruises

We headed straight down thru the backstreets of Five Dock, and onto the City West-Link, still in convoy. I don’t know about the others, but I swear I spotted at least 3-4 RAVs travelling in the opposite direction, but you could still see the look of awe/amazement/momentary distraction..... the parade our RAVs was quite a sight.... we certainly attracted a fair bit of attention!

We then cruised along Glebe Island Bridge, and skooted over the Sydney Harbour bridge whilst still maintaining convoy formation. I must admit, I was starting to get the hang of it all... Pointer for next time...... we need passengers to take in-transit shots!

At MacMahons point we met up with sydneyshan (great timing BTW) - ignoring the "No Standing" signs, we parked together for a great 'glory' shot.

Have to admit, great scenery...... and as an added bonus, the bridge and oprea house help to complete the picture!

Great looking behinds!!
Another stocktake of Ravs present at machons point: Toy-23Q, Stormcrow, Sydneyshan, TobyIIDog, Andrew, Ramone
Just 2 non RAV shots.......
From Left to Right: Johns brother, John (white shirt), Shannon, Shannon's mate
From Left to Right: Ramone, Normann, Andrew, and Ramone's son.
Lastly, my favourite pic - Ravs and their Drivers......
Shannon had other commitments, so we said our farewells at MacMahons point, and Normann/Andrew led the way back to Bicentennial Park at Homebush (near our starting place). We cruised thru North Sydney, along past Epping, and back down past Ryde and finally back to Bicentennial Park.

Finished off with a long-waited BBQ - special thanks to Ramone and his wife for doing most of the cooking!

Overall, it was a fantastic day, and we finished around 4pm. Andrew gave a good conclusive speech, thanking all those that had attended, and we all wait in anticipation for our next RAV meet!

Thanks to all who attended…. And much looking forward to our next get together, which will be under the official ClubRAV4OZ banner
